For those that are familiar with the workings of IRC, #requiem_shard can be accessed by using the following information in any major IRC client software:
IRC Server: irc.darkmyst.org
Ports: 6667
Channel Name: #requiem_shard
The Requiem chat channel is considered a mature channel. Moderation is on hand at all hours of the day, and strives to maintain an enviroment that can be considered comfortable for anyone over the age of 18.
Finding software to use with IRC can be a daunting project. The staff of Requiem recommends using the mIRC client, a free to use IRC client built for Windows operating systems. mIRC is a good choice if you wish to have a dedicated software option for chatting with other Requiem players without the hassle and unpredictability of using a webpage based applet.
The mIRC software can be downloaded from the mIRC website, located here. mIRC is a safe and secure method to connect to the #requiem_shard chat room, and is very easy to set up. Once installed, simply use the connection information above to get connected to the Requiem chat room.
The Requiem chat channel is considered a mature channel. As taken from a forum post by Administrator Brass concerning conduct in the mIRC room:
Change has to start somewhere, and the staff members wouldn't ask you to do something that they wouldn't do themselves, so expect to see a new level of professionalism from our moderators here at Requiem. We will remain close and approachable, but hopefully you will notice an improvement in all of the staff members. On your end, we would also like to see some change. All we are asking is that you think before you type, and keep any senseless vulgarity to yourself. You're not going to get banned for cussing, but we do expect you to consider the context and severity of your language. We're all adults here, and we know what is excessive and what isn't. By exercising that discretion, we can make #Requiem_Shard a much more accessible and welcoming place for everyone. There will be consequences for aberrant behavior, though. If you feel like #Requiem_Shard is too limiting of a place then you might consider forming your own private channel with some of your friends, where you may say what you please. If you're in our general channel, however, we will moderate it. A simple request to "tone it down" will likely serve as a warning. If forced to, we will use kicks and temporary bans, though these measures will only be enacted when there is a breach of conduct. Kicks and bans will not be used as punitive measures or "just because" ...if you are kicked or banned, there will be a reason.
From a reply by Head Administrator Sicarius:
I have heard some people put it as “don’t say something in the room that your Grandmother would be shocked by”. Well, some of our grandparents get offended over pretty petty words, and others use racial slurs as common place. So, I ask you all to keep the conduct to a “Bar” setting. Most of the bars around here will excuse the occasional F-bomb and light hearted cursing as normal routine. If you are going to go on a rampage, that’s something we consider Disorderly Conduct around these parts, and it’s not welcome here. Additionally, taboo subjects aren’t something that you normally overhear in your local pub. Don’t try to strike up a conversation about religion, sex crimes, or other awkward and unneeded things. We’re an adult orientated place here, so we’re not expecting you all to act like you’re in high school. We do, however, expect you guys to conduct yourselves with a college decorum. We’ve done a pretty good job so far with the attitude, but expect a lot of new faces coming in, some that aren’t exactly accustomed to the more liberal stance we take with the discussions and room etiquette. If you’re presenting yourself in a manner that is totally outrageous, you’ll be approached by a staff member through private message and made known of it. If you keep it up, you’ll be placed on a temporary ban. 90% of the stuff that goes on in the mIRC room right now is okay in my books, for all your information. Just keep in mind that we will be entering a new era of the shard, and the tight knit community we have now may grow exponentially in the coming months. Have fun, feel free to talk without fear of policing, but just mind your tongue and content.
If software installation is out of the question, or you wish to access the Requiem chat room from a remote location (work, school or otherwise), a webpage based option is available. Through the Requiem website, you can access a WebChat applet that will enable you to connect to #requiem_shard without the use of any software. The Requiem WebChat application can be accessed by following this link. A permanent quick link can also be found on the main page of the website for easy access.
